Conscious Awareness – Being Mindful of Every Moment in Each Day

Conscious awareness of the world, as well as your place and purpose in it, is the first step to opening yourself to experiencing more joy in your life.

Do you pay attention to your life? Are you mindful of each moment in every day? Do you live in awareness of who you are, why you are, and where you are?

If you are aware of these things, then you can truly find, and experience, joy all day, every day, in all things, in all places and in all circumstances.

My Awareness Epiphany

I became consciously aware of the world and my place in it thanks to a particularly emotional experience in my life, the details of which I share in my book, The ABCs of Joyful Living. At first, it was a very negative experience, challenging me to overcome a sense of grief and loss that might have left me bereft. Instead, as I struggled to understand what was happening to me, eyes closed as I focused inward on my pain, with tears beginning to form, I opened my eyes and realized what beautiful things our world and lives can be.

Suddenly, despite the pain I was in, I was suddenly aware of all the joy and beauty around me; and I was also aware of who I was, a divine soul with a God who knows me and loves me and who is aware of me and my situation. A God who is there to bless, comfort, and guide me.

I also became aware of why I was. I was not here on earth to be sad and miserable, or to feel like a failure for the life that was behind me or unable to face the challenges of the life that was before me.

I then became aware of where I was, as I said to myself: “Look where you are! Look at what you are doing! Do you honestly think you’d be here doing this and enjoying this beautiful moment if you chose to wallow in your woe? That is not what you are here to accomplish in life. This earth is not a horrible and miserable place. Look how beautiful it is. Look how beautiful you are. See how capable you are to put your feet on the ground and move, one step at a time; one glorious, powerful, forward step at a time.”

Drink from an Ocean of Joy

It suddenly struck me that, regardless of my situation, joy is always around and available to us. Just like water is always there for you – when you’re thirsty and crave it; when you’re not and don’t – you can hydrate yourself at any time and in every moment, with water or with joy!

This realization brought with it a powerful sense of peace within me; the realization that I would survive the turmoil and changes in my life, and that I could find joy in every situation, if only I remained aware of its universal presence and constant availability.

Of course, there is a great deal more that can be said about conscious awareness and mindfulness as sources of joy in your life; too much for a simple blog post.
